You really got to hand it to the internet for making the world a smaller place. Since Mountain Bike Tales went live back in 2004, we have had a loyal forum friend in the form of overall good guy, Sooty (AKA Mark Tyson). So when it came time for Sooty to share his latest venture with the mountain bike community, we were all for it.
It just so happens that with his company, Billyrock Productions, our friend Sooty from the land down under has assembled a most excellent freeride film entitled Back Yard Cruz. We’ve recently sat down with the 7 minute 55 second DVD and are pleased to tell you all about it.
For starters Back Yard Cruz presents a short but sweet view of the all mountain scene on some well groomed trails of the Australian wilderness. Included are sweet ladder shots, butter smooth transitions, and some all out trail attacks. An added dose of humor comes in the form of an energetic pooch that follows the riders along the course with unbridled enthusiasm. And what Australian film would be complete without a shot featuring a kangaroo in the wild?
Unlike most mountain bike films on the shelves, Billyrock Productions understands that a pounding soundtrack of screaming and squealing is often more distracting than it is soothing against the rhythm of riders blasting through the forest. Back Yard Cruz features solid beats backed with jazzy riffs that accompany the onscreen action like poetry in motion.
We firmly recommend giving Back Yard Cruz a viewing but be forewarned, a desire to head down to Oz to give the Pine Forest a shot for one’s self accompanies this video! Plane ticked not included.
