Gear Review: Balance Bar

By MBT Staff

Tasty snacks in your stocking.

Delicious Nutrition That Looks Good In Any Stocking

We know, we know. You’ve heard it all before when it comes to energy bars but before you close out this page let us propose a question. Have you ever stopped along the trail to consume a burst of energy and did so to the taste of Almond Brownie, Chocolate Raspberry Fudge, or Cookie Dough? What about triple layer Chewy Chocolate Chip? We have thanks to BALANCE BAR and after just one taste we were hooked. If you can’t find something delicious among the BALANCE BAR line, you simply aren’t looking hard enough.

Introduced in 1992, the BALANCE BAR is now available across five unique lines and twenty four flavor varieties. This is especially impressive considering the fact that regardless of which flavor we sampled, the bar worked wonders. Thanks to a surge of B vitamin and 100% daily value of antioxidant vitamins C and E, the energy increase kicks in immediately and lasts deep into the ride.

While calling one line better than another is completely subjective, we found ourselves growing ever fonder of the Gold and Gold Crunch BALANCE BARS thanks to their tendency to fill a hungry rider with 15 long lasting grams of protein. It also didn’t hurt that the triple layer bars came in flavors such as Rocky Road, Triple Chocolate Chaos, Cookies and Crème and S’Mores to mention a few.

Weight weenies (of the body variety) aren’t overlooked either. BALANCE offers both a 100 Calorie variety of their energy bars that still contain 19 vitamins and minerals, including: 100 percent Daily Value of antioxidants, Vitamins C and E and 5 grams of fiber and a Carb Well edition with only 2 grams of net carbs for individuals monitoring their intake.

While we here at MBT would like to convince you that we maintain perfectly balanced diets and account for each and every gram of food intake, the truth of the matter is that grilled red meat and a cold beer does a lot for the motivation and morale of the office. Even we found ourselves addicted to the BALANCE BAR benefits and were quick to pack one for short rides, all day epics, and most importantly, on race day. We are confident any rider, regardless of skill level or ride duration will appreciate the convenience, delicious flavors, and energy boost that the BALANCE BAR packs. They are sold individually for about $1.39 per bar or in boxes of 15 for around fifteen bucks and we advise picking up more than one. It’s that easy to get hooked!

The Bottom Line: Forget chocolate or candy-canes and slip a few BALANCE BARS into the stocking of your riding loved ones. If they don’t appreciate it immediately, they will on the trail.
